PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS ACTIVITIES IN THE NAVY NONCOMMISSIONED OFFICER VOCATIONAL SCHOOL OF HIGHER EDUCATION


         The Physical Education as curricular and extra-curricular activities and Sports activities in our school are carried out in order to meet the needs of The Turkish Armed Forces and The Turkish Navy which seek for Petty Officers who are expected to be physically strong, mentally equipped, psychologically high-motivated, self-confident and self-disciplened.


1. PHYSICAL EDUCATION LESSONS

         Classes are applied for two hours a week either at the open sports establishments or in the sports hall depending on the subject of the lesson. During each Education and Training Period students are to take practical examinations over 100 points. In these exams; swimming (50 meters), Navy Pentathlon Agility Track ( a track with obstacles taht could be completed in about 3 minutes) and Endurance (3000 meters running) tests are mandatory tests and 3 among push-up, sit-up, pull-up, 100 meters running, long-jump and high-jump tests are selective tests. In order to succeed, cadets are expected to reach a minimum average of 60 from the above mentioned tests.




2. EXTRA-CURRICULAR SPORTS ACTIVITIES

         Extra-curricular sports activities consist of: sports team exercises, whole-school sports practices, swimming, sailing and rowing education.







Our school takes part in the annual intramural games that are joined by several universities and NCO colleges. The sports teams are superintended by their coaches after the lessons. The students who are not in a team participate in the whole-school sports practices. The cadets who cannot develop their swimming skills during the Orientation Training (the adjustment period when the students are first recruited) and physical education lessons are supposed to join the extra swimming activities. All students in our school participate in basic sailing and rowing activities within a plan after the class periods. As a result of the sports programs and activities; each cadet graduates with the necessary abilities and skills in swimming, basic sailing and rowing, and as a physically fit, strong, self-confident and self-disciplened person both individually and within a team.
